Dundret Gällivare Secures Hosting of 2026 Skicross World Cup Final

After the previous organizer withdrew in October due to financial challenges, the Swedish Ski Federation (SSF) swiftly secured Dundret in Gällivare as the new host for the 2026 Skicross World Cup final. Scheduled for March 27-29, 2026, this decision came just five months before the event, illustrating the urgency and collaboration with the International Ski Federation (FIS) to keep the competition on Swedish soil.

This marks the return of the World Cup to Dundret after 43 years, a milestone celebrated by local leaders and the sports community. Birgitta Häggström, CEO of Dundret Gällivare, highlighted the positive impact this event will have on both the community and the development of skicross in Sweden.

The event's importance extends beyond logistics. Pernilla Bonde, Secretary General of SSF, emphasized its role in enhancing competitive conditions for Swedish skicross athletes and raising the sport's profile nationally and internationally. Star athlete Sandra Näslund shared her excitement about the opportunity to compete at home and show the sport's high level to Swedish fans, noting the significance of having family and friends present to cheer.

Originally, Idre was intended to host the event but was unable to do so due to financial constraints, making Gällivare's selection crucial to maintaining Sweden's presence on the World Cup calendar. Hosting the World Cup final is seen as a chance to inspire young skiers and support the growth of winter sports in the region.
