Deliberate Explosion in Norrköping Apartment Building Causes Extensive Damage, Injures One

In the early hours of Sunday morning, November 23, 2025, an explosion occurred in the stairwell of a multi-family building in Norrköping, Sweden, causing significant damage and injuring one person. The blast, which happened at approximately 4:15 AM, severely damaged the entrance door, shattered windows on the ground, first, and second floors, and caused parts of the ceiling above the entrance to collapse. Nearby cars also sustained damage as a result of the explosion.

Emergency services responded swiftly, deploying ten units along with ambulances and police to the scene. Erik Molander, an operator with the emergency services, described the scene: "A lot of windows have been damaged, and the roof above the entrance has collapsed."

One man in his 70s was hospitalized following the incident, but according to Martina Gradian, a spokesperson for the emergency services, his injuries are not life-threatening.

Despite the damage, residents were not required to evacuate the building. However, those who wished to exit had access to alternative exits for safety. The police are treating the explosion as a case of public endangerment and have called in the national bomb squad to investigate the incident. Authorities suspect the explosion was deliberately caused but, as of now, no suspects have been identified or arrested.
