Dalarnas Holds Its First Funkisfullmäktige to Boost Disability Inclusion in Politics

Dalarnas held its inaugural funkisfullmäktige, a new political forum aimed at amplifying the voices of people with disabilities. The event took place at Orrskogens Folkets Park, bringing together politicians from various parties including V, SD, L, S, Lp, and M, alongside people with intellectual disabilities to discuss key issues related to accessibility and inclusion.

The meeting involved an open dialogue where audience members posed questions, with some answered immediately and others slated for follow-up. A notable topic of discussion was the challenge posed by high curbs, which negatively impact mobility and access for disabled individuals. Lars-Gunnar Nilsson, a participant, expressed enthusiasm about meeting the politicians and confidence that their concerns would be taken seriously.

Originally started in Arvika, the funkisfullmäktige initiative is now expanding to other municipalities such as Malung-Sälen. This development marks a significant step toward inclusive political dialogue and improving societal accessibility in Dalarna.
