Dalarna Gears Up for 2026 Election Amid Early Voting Concerns and Community Engagement

As Dalarna prepares for the upcoming elections on September 13, 2026, local political engagement efforts are intensifying, accompanied by concerns over early voting registration errors. Elections for the riksdag, municipal, and regional levels are scheduled, with notable political activities and issues emerging.

The Hyresgästföreningen in Mölnlycke recently hosted a Demokratitorg event aimed at boosting voter turnout, particularly among tenants. This event featured participation from six major parties — Moderaterna, Socialdemokraterna, Centerpartiet, Kristdemokraterna, Miljöpartiet, and Vänsterpartiet — highlighting a broad political commitment to increasing democratic participation. Jan Linde, chairman of Hyresgästföreningen, praised the political support and the campaign titled "Rösta 13 september" which involved local visits encouraging residents to vote despite some weather-related issues at the event.

Simultaneously, concerns have been raised regarding early voting registration. A technical error reported by Valmyndigheten resulted in approximately 4,000 early votes being incorrectly registered, though it remains unclear how many, if any, of these affected Dalarna. In response to modernizing the voting process, Dalarna will also participate in a digital voting trial in 20 districts, including Sunnansjö, aiming for broader implementation by the 2029 EU elections.

Among key political developments, Fredrik Persson (Socialdemokraterna), the chairman of Falu municipality's culture and leisure committee, announced a temporary withdrawal from politics to focus on health and family matters. Another local issue under debate involves funding for the renovation of Dalateatern, a cultural landmark.
