Child Cardiologist in Jönköping Has Medical License Revoked Following Multiple Misdiagnoses

A child cardiologist who worked at Ryhov Hospital in Jönköping has voluntarily had his medical license revoked after a series of misdiagnoses affecting at least 78 children, many of whom were incorrectly declared healthy despite having heart conditions. The doctor’s mismanagement not only delayed necessary treatments but also contributed to serious health consequences, including surgeries for several children and the death of an infant in 2021 due to medication errors.

The scandal unraveled in late 2025, prompting a thorough review of hundreds of medical records and subsequent re-examinations of affected patients. The Health and Social Care Inspectorate (IVO) criticized Ryhov Hospital’s handling of repeated internal warnings about the doctor’s practices, highlighting serious shortcomings in patient care.

The cardiologist had been employed at the children’s clinic in Jönköping from 2014 until 2021 before relocating to Barnhjärtcentrum in Skåne, where the misdiagnoses were further investigated. After resigning from Skånes universitetssjukhus in Lund and moving to the United Kingdom, he requested the revocation of his medical license, which was granted by the Health and Medical Care Accountability Board (HSAN). This voluntary revocation effectively halts the ongoing investigation, as most cases are closed once a license is withdrawn.

Parents of the affected children have expressed deep frustration and anger, feeling abandoned by the healthcare system and seeking accountability. Jennie Sejdhage, whose son Oliver was misdiagnosed repeatedly, voiced her distress over the situation.

HSAN has informed relevant medical authorities within the European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland about the license revocation to prevent the doctor from practicing elsewhere. The case remains a grave example of medical negligence and systemic failure at Ryhov Hospital, with ongoing calls for improved oversight and patient safety measures.
