Boden Cancels Waste Collection Amid Extreme Cold Weather

The municipality of Boden has suspended its waste collection service for Monday and Tuesday due to forecasted extreme cold temperatures nearing -30 degrees Celsius. According to reports from P4 Norrbotten and the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI), temperatures in Boden are expected to drop to around -26 degrees on Monday and further down to -29 degrees on Tuesday.

This decision stems from concerns about the reliability and functionality of the lifting systems on garbage collection trucks in such severe cold conditions. To prevent wear and tear or potential damage to the trucks' mechanical parts, Boden authorities have opted to halt operations temporarily.

Waste collection trucks, which rely on hydraulic lifting systems to handle garbage bins, may not operate effectively when exposed to these extreme low temperatures, posing risks to municipal equipment and service continuity.

The cancellation is a precautionary measure aimed at maintaining the durability of the fleet and ensuring long-term service quality, while prioritizing safety amid the harsh winter weather.
