Anna-Karin Heijdenberg Secures Final Spot on Sweden's 2026 Olympic Biathlon Team

Anna-Karin Heijdenberg has clinched the last available position on the Swedish women's biathlon team for the 2026 Winter Olympics, edging out Johanna Skottheim in a highly competitive selection process. Coach Johan Hagström described the decision as "one of the closest I've ever been involved in," emphasizing the comprehensive evaluation of athletes' performances.

Heijdenberg, aged 25, secured her nomination due to strong showings in both relay and individual events, despite recently expressing emotional struggles following a disappointing performance. Her selection awaits final approval from the Swedish Olympic Committee. Although confirmed on the team, Heijdenberg's participation in actual Olympic events is not guaranteed, mirroring the uncertainty faced by athletes like Stina Nilsson in prior Games.

The Swedish team roster also includes siblings Elvira and Hanna Öberg, Anna Magnusson, Ella Halvarsson, and Linn Gestblom. Notably, Magnusson recently posted Sweden's best result in the final World Cup event before the Olympics, finishing twelfth in the mass start at Nove Mesto.

This selection marks another disappointment for Johanna Skottheim, 31, who again missed the cut for the Games. Hagström highlighted Heijdenberg's versatility and readiness to step in as vital assets for the team going into the Olympics.
