Alternativet Stands Alone on Child Welfare in Bromölla Amid Election Rhetoric Surge

In Bromölla, the political party Alternativet has been uniquely proactive on child welfare issues, standing in contrast to other parties whose newfound concern appears election-driven. In June 2024, Alternativet was the sole party to support a motion proposing 699,000 kronor to improve child and adolescent psychiatric services (BUP), aiming to quickly diagnose and treat around twenty children needing urgent help. Other parties did not back this critical initiative. This year, in April 2026, Alternativet again acted alone by opposing the relocation of children from Gualöv to Edenryd school, a move later reversed by the administrative court after parents appealed.

With elections approaching on September 13, many other parties are now publicly expressing support for children's welfare issues, which Alternativet suggests is politically motivated. Stig Gerdin of Alternativet voiced hope that this renewed goodwill towards children's concerns will endure beyond the elections. The situation underscores a significant contrast in how parties have historically addressed child welfare: while Alternativet has consistently prioritized these issues, others have only recently adopted a supportive stance largely coinciding with electoral campaigning.
