80-Year-Old Driver Arrested After Fatal Accident in Stockholm

A tragic traffic accident occurred on August 24, 2025, at approximately 4:30 PM near Slottsbacken in central Stockholm, resulting in the death of a 40-year-old woman and serious injuries to two others. An 80-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident, facing charges of causing another's death, gross bodily harm, and gross negligence in traffic.

The police received reports of the accident shortly after it occurred, indicating that multiple pedestrians had been struck by the vehicle. Witnesses at the scene reported that the driver was not speeding and may not have seen the victims at the time of the collision. A taxi driver intervened to stop the car as it continued moving forward after the impact.

Authorities confirmed that the woman succumbed to her injuries later that evening, and police expressed that there is no evidence suggesting the accident was intentional. According to Per Fahlström, a spokesperson for the police, there were also no indications of a medical emergency that could have contributed to the accident.

The two other individuals who were seriously injured have been taken to the hospital for treatment. The vehicle involved in the crash has been seized for a technical investigation, as authorities seek to uncover more details surrounding the tragic incident.
